Our History

In the early 1990s, Mary Lou Cohen and Holly Lovseth shared a modest two-desk office at REMAX Results. Holly was a full-time commissioned Realtor, while Mary Lou brought experience in corporate sales from her time at Beltmann North American Van Lines. Over time, their conversations evolved into a bold idea: to create a relocation company that gave renters the same level of care and attention traditionally reserved for homebuyers.

One summer afternoon over lunch, that idea turned into action. Mary Lou reached out to industry connections and eventually secured the backing of Bill Dircks Sr. at Berger Allied. On January 20, 1994, Relocation Today officially opened its doors—right above a Caribou Coffee in downtown Wayzata, Minnesota.

Their first office was just 400 square feet, with a lakeside view and a shared switchboard. Holly became a licensed broker, Mary Lou obtained a Household Goods broker license, and they furnished their space with donated equipment—ready to begin their journey.

Relocation Today quickly found its footing. Early partnerships with Minnesota-based leaders like General Mills, 3M, Pillsbury, the University of Minnesota, and Cargill helped shape their services and fee structures. Key clients like Park Nicollet, Lifetouch, Cardinal Glass, and Donaldson Companies helped build a strong and lasting foundation.
